Oni is a 3rd person fighter/shooter in which the player can engage in unarmed melee combat or long range shooting in 3D environments. Imagine Street Fighter meets Gears of War.
This video is the best way to view the animation/fighting/shooting system I designed along with programmer Michael Evans. The results is fluid, robust, and flexible movement between characters, weapons, and objects.

Oni was my first job in the gaming industry. Coming from the world of architecture, I finally landed my dream job as an environment artist. A few weeks into development I created some character animations on a weekend. They turned out well and I was offered the job of animator. I personally hand-animated all characters in a 3rd person fighter/shooter. 12 characters each with a full suite of armed and unarmed moves (about 120 animations per character). With such a small development team we needed to wear multiple hats. I was designed and implemented the animation and fighting system which was consistently very well reviewed. After about a year, I became Art Lead for our small group of 5 artists and oversaw our launch on Mac/PC and Playstation.
